EMERGENCY DEAN PROGRAM
The Emergency Dean program is an after-hours program intended to provide logistical support to students experiencing an emergency that requires the coordination of an immediate university response and which cannot wait until the next business day (e.g., notification about a student death; a student has been critically injured; students are displaced from a residence due to fire or flood with no landlord assistance; a student has sent communication suggesting that s/he may be a threat to self or others). The Emergency Dean serves as a mechanism for alerting essential university personnel about an emergent situation involving students and/or the university
but are not a substitute for emergency trained personnel such as 911, Fire, or Police.
The Emergency Dean Program is only in operation when the Student Assistance Center in the Office of the Dean
of Students is closed after 5 p.m. on weekdays when the university is open and 24 hours on weekends and holidays. The E-Dean is a full time employee of the university who volunteers to be on call at home. The E-dean should not
be contacted for and will be unable to assist with non-emergency issues such as those related to academic or university policy questions, visa questions, any issues related to absences from class or exams or a student’s need to leave campus for a period of time, or other issues related to standard or routine university business. These kind of issues may be directed to the Student Assistance Center during business hours.
