Solving the complex issues in society requires a complex set of leadership skills for today’s college students. Effective leadership skills are emerging as one of the primary components for prospective job seekers in today’s society as well. The University of Illinois recognizes the importance of leadership skill development for its students. The Illinois Leadership Center provides a number of free programs and services to help students gain these vital leadership skills.

The mission of the Student Legal Services office is to provide (1) preventive legal education, (2) legal counseling and advice, and (3) individual representation (in Champaign County courts) to students in order to enhance student life and student knowledge of their rights and responsibilities and positively impact student retention. MINORITY STUDENT AFFAIRS
The Office of Minority Student Affairs (OMSA) is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2016. Over the past 50 years, OMSA has promoted academic excellence and achievement from entry to progression to graduation for domestic, undergraduate African-American, American Indian, Latina/o, Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islanders, and multiracial students. OMSA provides academic and retention services that include academic coaching and mentoring for select students, academic skills development workshops, advocacy and referrals, financial and economic literacy seminars, study abroad workshops, and tutoring. Full-time students receiving services will be eligible to apply for limited scholarships if they meet other requirements. OMSA also provides academic support services to EOP, PAP, MAP, RISE, AAP, Illinois Promise, first generation, low income, and other domestic undergraduate students needing academic assistance irrespective of race or ethnicity.
