Ibarra Crowned King Dad 2015
During Dads Weekend 2015, the Dads Association announced Raul Ibarra Sr. of Romeoville, IL as the annual King Dad. During the Dads Weekend Recep- tion Raul Ibarra Jr., a junior in the Col- lege of Fine + Applied Arts, read the essay he submitted when he nominated his father.
“My father is the most hardworking and strong willed person I know,” Ibarra Jr. shared. He told how his father came
to the United States from Mexico at 17 and endured various hardships in order to create a better life for himself. “He faced those obstacles head on and be- came the man he is today. From a very young age he taught me that everything in life is earned and not given. He told me this from a very young age because everything he has in his life was earned through hard work and patience. He has made many sacrifices to provide for me and the rest of my family through- out his life and for that I cannot thank him enough.”
As King Dad, Ibarra Sr. received a plaque, a copy of Raul Jr.’s essay, and
a scepter. In addition, Raul Sr., along with his wife, daughter, and Raul Jr. were invited to watch the football game versus Ohio State from the Chancellor’s luxury box. King Ibarra was also recog-
