Zuri White – Parent and Family Programs Manager
Stay Connected
We are about to embark on another exciting year here at the University of Il- linois at Urba- na-Champaign and I am look-
ing forward to welcoming our returning students and their families back. is year bring some newness beginning with myself. I am excited to serve the Parents and Family Programs O ce as the new program manager. I am from the south suburbs of Chicago and I attended Southern Illinois University Carbon- dale for my bachelor’s degree and then attended Western Michigan University where I obtained my master’s degree. I have worked at various institutions in roles with the residence halls, teaching classes, and most recently worked with student activities and involvement.
I really enjoy working in a university setting and am passionate about creating healthy seamless transitions to college for both students and their families. I believe an informed and supportive family plays an integral role in a student’s educational success and I am excited to work within an o ce that recognizes the complex- ity of a student’s support system. When looking closer at this support system, we de ne “parent” as any caregiver, or legal guardian who is actively involved in a student’s endeavor. By this de nition,
“parent” includes, but is not limited to mothers, fathers, aunts, uncles, grand- parents, siblings, adoptive parents, step parents, etc. I welcome all families to engage and utilize our o ce.
Our current Illini Family Resource Guide can be found online at union.illinois.edu/PFPO. We publish an updated version of the guide every summer with parents and families in mind, and we encourage you to read
it and keep it handy. You also have an opportunity to be part of the Moms or Dads Association where you can work many of the events during Moms and Dads Weekends, or even apply to serve on the board of directors. ese are all great opportunities for you to be an active member of the Illinois community.
No matter their year in school, we
know that this is an exciting time in your student’s life, and we want it to be an exciting time for families, too. e more you know about the university and your student’s place in it, the better you are prepared to be of help and support to your student. If you have any ques- tions please do not hesitate to contact us via phone (217) 333-7063 or via email iuparentfamilyprograms@illinois.edu. Go Illini!
