• Jared Eakins had the article “Friends, not foes: collaborating with academic units on educational programming” published in the January 2015 edition of Campus Activities Programming magazine.
• Jared Eakins served as a Leader Shape Cluster Facilitator at the University of Illinois in January 2015.
• Melissa Kisubika, Student Organization Resource Fee (SORF) program advisor, served as the NASPA (Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education) Communication Coordinator for the Assessment, Evaluation and Research Knowledge Community.
• Melissa Kisubika presented “Strategic Role of Assessment Leaders: Organizational & Political Reali- ties” with colleagues from University of Albany, University of Montana, Texas A&M University, and University of North Carolina-Wilmington at the 2015 NASPA Annual Conference in New Orleans, LA.
• Office of Volunteer Programs program advisor, John Race, co-founded the Big Ten Community Service Network – a group of volunteer and community service professionals from Big Ten schools. The group held conference calls regularly throughout the year and hope to meet
in person in the coming years.
• Laurel Rosch, associate director, served as the Chancellor’s Commission to Support Homecoming Chair.
• Becki Salzman, assistant to the director, traveled with a campus-wide team to Asia to conduct pre-departure orientations for more than 900 incoming Chinese and South Korean undergraduate and graduate students. The sessions provided an opportunity for students and their families to meet staff, ask critical questions, and address concerns before arriving on campus.
• The Illini Union organization hosted the first Family Hospitality Center in the Food Court during the Summer Registration program of 2015. Refreshments, snacks, and entertainment were provided to families, as well as a cool place to rest and reconnect after a long day of educational ses- sions and advisor appointments.
• A new Summer Registration marketing plan was executed this past summer, including new directional signage throughout the building, new welcome banners, “Did You Know” posters throughout the building, south balcony banner welcoming everyone, and a PowerPoint slide show in the Courtyard Café that illustrated many of the activities and programs hosted
by Illini Union departments.
• The Facilities team oversaw the completion of the of the Illini Union’s E-3 Service Elevator renovation.
• The Illini Union hosted the IPDS: New Professionals Orientation conference, a week long seminar offered to new college union and student activities professionals from all over the United States.
WONDER WOMAN
Julie Knapp, Docu- ment Services, received the Outstanding Staff, Civil Service Award, from the Vice Chancel- lor for Student Affairs. This highly competitive award acknowledged Julie’s excellent work performance, out- standing customer service, extraordinary efficiency, and co- ordination of work with customers, co-workers, and vendors.
